Styrene Monomer Market Comments
02.09.2026
Dear members,
I would like to share my beginning-of-month Styrene Monomer market assessment.
The European Styrene Monomer monthly contract price was announced at EUR 1,701/t, representing a decrease of EUR 140/t compared with the previous month, also reflecting the recent decline in Benzene prices.
According to current market indicators, European FOB Rotterdam Styrene Monomer spot prices are trading at around USD 1,590/t, while Styrene Monomer CFR China prices are at approximately USD 1,230/t.
On the upstream side, European FOB Rotterdam Benzene is trading at around USD 1,065/t. Based on current price levels, the spread between Benzene and Styrene Monomer has reached approximately USD 525/t and appears to have widened significantly compared with levels observed in previous periods.
The recent strength in Styrene Monomer spot prices is assessed to be driven primarily by limited prompt availability in Europe, low trading liquidity and short-covering activity, rather than by strong underlying end-user demand. In contrast, the Benzene market continues to face downward pressure amid relatively comfortable supply, limited buying interest and weak seasonal demand.
This commentary represents my personal market assessment and reflects general market observations and analysis only. It does not constitute binding information on behalf of any institution, producer, or supplier and should not be construed as investment, trading, pricing, or commercial advice.
Kind regards,
Alpaslan Günyol
